Ceramic Artisan at Drawing Room

Drawing Room is building a shop! We carry various retail goods, including ceramics we make in-house, by hand. In an effort to ramp up production, we are seeking a Ceramic Artisan to join our team. Please note that this role is not paid hourly, but rather per item and therefore is more akin to that of a wholesale retailer. You will be creating proprietary ceramic objects designed by Drawing Room. You will have the opportunity to pitch designs too, if interested.

You will be a good fit if:

  • You have significant ceramics experience

  • You sell your own ceramic art / goods and have experience creating retail-grade items

  • You have access to your own studio space. You will have access to Drawing Room during the weekdays to create in our space, but we will prioritize candidates who can create ceramics independently from Drawing Room’s firing schedules

  • You are passionate about community-building and Drawing Room’s mission

  • You are passionate about creativity! You likely have a creative hobby or practice of your own.

  • You are kind, charismatic, and inclusive

  • You are able to learn quickly, adapt when things don’t go right, and can problem-solve and think on your feet. Your might be switching from task to task and juggling between various tasks fairly quickly.

  • You are detail oriented

  • You have great time-management skills

  • You have great verbal and written communication skills

Bonus if:

  • You have plaster mold-making experience

  • You have wholesale experience

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating ceramic (or ceramic multimedia) product designs at a set price per item. Example: $10-13 per strung ornament with charms.

  • Delivering the items to Drawing Room

  • Agreeing on prices, deadlines, and volume, then delivering them on time

  • Being open to new design commissions, especially if sales are not strong for some items.

  • Stamping items with Drawing Room stamp

  • All designs commissioned by Drawing Room or accepted by Drawing Room are proprietary to the organization. Selling them (or any version/modification) of them elsewhere is strictly prohibited.

Compensation & role details:

  • Items you create are purchased at wholesale prices upon delivery and inspection.

  • You will be featured as a maker on the Drawing Room team’s webpage and relevant online retail pages.
