Why Book Talk & Trade at Drawing Room?
-
Gather around on the couch, let's chat books!
Remember the reading lists and challenges at our local libraries? Let’s make our own reading lists by crowdsourcing among new friends at Drawing Room! This is a quick activity (with tea and coffee) before our Open Hours on Sunday (12-5pm), so you could come by, mingle with community, then stick around and read(?!), chat, eat, make art, etc. if you’d like (all-day pass for open hours sold separately).
-
How it works
Before arriving, write down the following on any piece of paper:
Your reading list: Write the names of your top 3 favorite books (or reads) and a few bullets on: 1) What it’s about 2) Why you love it, and 3) Who you’d recommend it to (“if you like fantasy”, etc.)
Book Swap: Feel welcome to bring any books you’d like to donate or trade! Our community library will be open for swaps during this event. You can add to it, or trade with books that are already there or that other attendees bring!
We’ll start with some fun conversation prompts to get to know the other attendees. Then, we’ll share and recommend our prepared favorites based on what we learned, and in the process create our own summer reading lists to take home with us! Then, we encourage everyone to stay in touch on discord and share their progress through the rest of the summer. Great to come to solo or with friends!
-
Emphasis on connection
Book Talk & Trade is all about connecting with community through our shared love of reading and books! These are great to come to solo or with friends; we all gather around on the couches to chat and have a great time.
