Open Hour Host at Drawing Room

Location: Drawing Room (In-Person)
Position Type: Part-Time, prioritizing consistent weekend availability

Open Hour Hosts at Drawing Room own at least one regular Open Hour shift throughout the week. For example, you might own the Saturday evening shifts, or Tuesday daytime shifts (or both). We are open every day except Mondays, so we have a team of hosts that have a varied schedule. Finding coverage in case of emergencies is often possible, but reliable commitment to your regular shift is a requirement. You are committing to a minimum of 8 hours per week, with preference for an ability and desire to grow within the role and take on additional responsibilities or shifts.

All hosts go through an interview process with our team which may consist of virtual calls and in-person meetings. Then, you’ll shadow shifts and events, undergo host training, and, finally, complete a certification.

We are prioritizing hosts who have additional skills and experiences outside of hosting, such as marketing, digital customer success, community-building/engagement, operations, and more. Think you have a skill that would be a great addition to the team? We highly encourage you to include it in your application.

You will be a good fit if:

  • You are passionate about community-building and Drawing Room’s mission

  • You are passionate about creativity! You likely have a creative hobby or practice of your own.

  • You are kind, charismatic, and inclusive

  • You are able to learn quickly, adapt when things don’t go right, and can problem-solve and think on your feet. Your might be switching from task to task and juggling between various tasks fairly quickly.

  • You are detail oriented

  • You have great verbal and written communication skills

  • You have experience in customer-facing roles

  • You love hosting! Maybe you like to throw dinner parties and gatherings for your friends?

  • You have a skill or passion you think would be a great addition to the Drawing Room team, such as social media, photography, writing, etc.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Setting up for Open Hours, including setting up the kitchen space with tea, coffee

  • Welcoming people in, often being the first person they engage with at Drawing Room. Give newcomers the tour of the space, explain our no-shoe policy, and give a brief intro to Drawing Room, and make them feel welcome.

  • Becoming an expert on our Art Library so that you are able to clearly communicate usage information

  • Maintaining our Art Library, including replenishing stock, maintaining good organization and placement, ensuring materials are clean and in good condition, and repairing kits.

  • Engaging with the community members that come over for Open Hours - you are hosting the space, and an important member of the community!

  • Answering questions, replying to location text support, helping people check in and purchase items, etc.

  • Maintenance of the space, including clearing the garbage if it gets full, refilling the tea kettle, making more coffee

  • Cleaning up and closing down, including vacuuming at the end of the night, cleaning up any debris, making sure the kitchen sink is clear

  • Taking content while you’re in the space

  • Processing deliveries and packages, logging, and organizing

  • Stamping Drawing Room passports!

Compensation & role details:

  • The hourly rate starts at $20 per hour, with opportunities for increases over time.

  • Benefits include unlimited access to Drawing Room’s weekday Open Hours, with staff discounts on our Art Library, discounts on snacks & merch, as well as priority event/workshop volunteering opportunities.

Please note that due to our incredible community and the overwhelming support and interest from those who want to get involved (we are so grateful!), we won't be able to reply to every single application. However, rest assured that we have received your submission and we will be in touch if there is a good fit. Thanks and hope to chat soon!
