Claydate: Next-Level Part 2

  • Drawing Room 247 West 30th Street, 9R New York, NY, 10001 United States (map)

A playdate, with clay.

In this next-level Claydate, we’ll do a deep dive on alternative surface design techniques that we don’t normally cover in Claydates.

You will experiment with and apply these techniques on your piece from the previous class (Part I).

These techniques include: various techniques of underglaze application, carving at the leather hard stage, sgraffito, underglaze transfers, paper stencils and resists, wax inlay, and more.

All finished pieces are food-safe, microwave-safe, and even oven-safe! Instruction by Aubrey Aiese.

$129 per person (Limited early bird tickets available for $116)

Limited spots!

(The second gathering – the dinner party – is totally optional; you can pick up your pieces separately, if preferred and use your included Open Hour pass at a date of your choosing. The date of the second gathering (should you choose to attend) is Wed, Oct 9th @ 6:30-8:30pm)

More Details:

  • 15-20 mins of demonstration on basic clay hand-building techniques. These include slab building, pinch pots, and coil building. Then you’re free to build whatever you’d like with provided clay.

Hand building is a super versatile way of working with clay – you’re not restricted to only round objects, as you might be on a wheel

Unlike many other ceramic workshops in the city, we allow you to both paint your pieces in the same day (9 different ceramic paint colors) and choose between multiple glaze colors (6 different solid glaze colors)

The instructor will be available to help, answer questions, and show any custom demos you’d like (for example if you are trying to build something specific).

    • Unlimited white stoneware clay to make as many pieces as you’d like to keep

    • Variety of shared tools

    • Variety of ceramic underglaze paints (these are specialty paints that survive high temperature kiln firings, great for adding patterns, illustrations, text, etc.)

    • Glaze application services (choose among several great glaze colors to add the final custom touch to your art piece!)

    • Bisque firing service and related fees

    • Glaze firing service and related fees

    • Unlimited white stoneware clay to make as many pieces as you’d like to keep
