Claydate: Mugs!

A playdate, with clay. In this edition of Claydate, we’ll learn to hand-build mugs! These can be any shape or size you want, depending on what you plan to drink out of your creation. Then, we’ll have the option to paint them too! Choose from 9 different ceramic paints to create any illustrations you want!

$135 per person

Instruction, materials, 2x firing fees, hand-glazing services, drinks, & snacks all included; great to come to solo or with friends. Beginners encouraged!

All finished pieces are food-safe, microwave-safe, and even oven-safe! Instruction (and examples above) by Aubrey Aiese.

What makes workshops at Drawing Room unique: This isn’t just a workshop or a class – it’s a whole experience. While we provide all the materials and techniques for lasting pieces, we also carefully curate the setting, music, food, and drink to make it an immersive experience that brings people together and encourages a creative-social experience. Make a special memory 💕

And, because Drawing Room is a space that is centered around community-building – which we believe requires consistency – all our workshops come with one All-Day Pass to our Open Hours (during a day of your choice!) because we’d like to see you back here! Open Hours are meant for you to enjoy our community space like a second home – read, lounge, drink unlimited tea/coffee, mingle, and more. You will receive your free voucher during the event!

What to expect:

15-20 mins of demonstration on beginner clay hand-building techniques to construct our mugs so that they are structurally sound and just the way you want. Then you’re free to build your mug (or anything else you’d prefer is ok with us, too!). Hand building is a super versatile way of working with clay – you’re not restricted to only round objects, as you might be on a wheel.

  • Unlike many other ceramic workshops in the city, we allow you to both paint your pieces in the same day (9 different ceramic paint colors) and choose between multiple glaze colors (6 different solid glaze colors)

  • The instructor will be available to help, answer questions, and show any custom demos you’d like (for example if you are trying to build something specific).

What’s included

  • Unlimited white stoneware clay to make up to 2 pieces to keep

  • Variety of shared tools

  • Variety of ceramic underglaze paints (these are specialty paints that survive high temperature kiln firings, great for adding patterns, illustrations, text, etc.)

  • Glaze firing service and related fees
